Analyze the Top 10 Results of Your Targeted Keywords
Both on-page factors and off-page factors must be analyzed.
There are many SEO tools available for you to do these. I used a combination of tools to help me analyze my competitions and I recommend WebCEO - a program which I have been using since 2004. You can download the free version WebCEO to test it out before you invest in this very powerful professional SEO toolkit.

Another important observation was that these top ranking websites have lots of content related to search engine optimization, search marketing and internet marketing.
Also, the incoming text links to these websites have words that are related to SEO, search engines and search marketing.
